What You Can Do To Take Care Of Your Eyes

Posted on

Your eyes need you to take care of them so that you can see well. If you aren't doing what you can to take care of your eyes, you could end up with poor vision. If you have poor vision, you may be required to wear eyeglasses or other types of corrective lenses, or you may require surgery to correct your vision. You may not know what you have to do to take care of your eyes. Read on for helpful tips for you to care for your eyes.

Eat A Healthy Diet

Be sure you are eating a proper diet that helps with improving your vision. Eating foods rich in vitamins and minerals will help with your vision, such as carrots, sweet potatoes, and yellow squash, which all contain beta carotene. Eating green leafy vegetables will also help with this, such as romaine lettuce, spinach, and kale. Taking a multi-vitamin can also give you these vitamins and minerals that you need daily as well, especially if you are missing them in your diet. Drink enough water each day as well, to help stay hydrated and to keep your organs working properly—your eyes are no exception. Drink at least 8-10 glasses of water each day.

Rest Your Eyes

Give your eyes a break from the day-to-day grind and allow your eyes the proper rest they need. This doesn't mean sleeping at night, it means allowing your eyes a break from things such as the screens you look at daily—your phone, tablet, computer, television, or another device that you stare at daily and leaves you with dry or strained eyes. Looking away from these devices throughout the day will offer them a break, so take breaks when you can. You can get digital eye strain from looking at these devices, and you may also experience migraines, headaches, or even dry eyes. Resting your eyes can relieve or prevent these symptoms.

If you don't do what you can to take care of your eyes, you could end up with failing vision, or poor eye health. Use the tips above to help you, but also be sure to get to the eye doctor for vision checkups every year. If your vision changes, your eye doctor will take note of this and you can get your prescription updated if necessary to help you see clearly.
